Barrett's esophagus
Condition- h_pylori: H. pylori bacteria in the stomach — produces acid that mimics gastric acid and rises up the esophagus; H. pylori is very elusive and often evades diagnostic testing
- liver_dysfunction: Liver dysfunction (sluggish/stagnant liver) — produces insufficient bile to break down fats properly, which puts extra demand on stomach glands for HCL production and ultimately exhausts them, leading to low HCL and bacterial proliferation
- low_hydrochloric_acid: Low hydrochloric acid in the stomach is the foundational cause; without sufficient HCL, bacteria proliferate unchecked in the stomach and duodenum; a sluggish or stagnant liver producing insufficient bile is the upstream cause of low HCL
- bacterial_acid_damage: Rogue bacterial acids (produced by bacteria such as H. pylori and streptococcus proliferating in the stomach and duodenum due to low HCL) repeatedly rise up the esophagus and damage/abrade the esophageal lining; these are not true gastric hydrochloric acids but mutant acids that mimic HCL
- streptococcus: Streptococcus bacteria in the small intestinal tract or stomach — creates bad acids that can spew up into the duodenum and further into the stomach, contributing to esophageal acid damage
