Dry eye syndrome
Condition- trace_mineral_deficiency: Chronic deficiency of trace mineral salts is a co-factor in dry eye syndrome. The body requires mineral salts — particularly the sodium cluster salts found in celery juice — to maintain proper hydration at the cellular level and to keep mucous membranes and eye tissue properly lubricated. Mineral deficiency is distinct from simple dehydration and requires specific mineral-rich foods and supplements to address.
- Low-grade chronic dehydration in combination with chronic deficiency of trace mineral salts and, in some cases, overactive or underactive, weakened adrenals.
- chronic_dehydration_mechanism: Most cases of dry eye are the result of chronic low-grade dehydration. Soft drinks, coffee, and insufficient clean water, coconut water, juices, or fresh fruits leave a person dehydrated long-term. Eating too much cooked food — which provides very little high-quality living water — also contributes. When the body is chronically dehydrated, it protects the brain and heart first, so dry eyes and dry skin are among the first symptoms to appear. The liver, which acts as a living water storage bin for the body, becomes depleted and unable to rehydrate the lymphatic system or maintain electrolyte delivery throughout the body.
- bacterial_duct_blockages: Some cases of dry eyes are caused by blockages in the tear ducts from low-grade bacterial infections — primarily strep (streptococcus) and staph (staphylococcus). These bacteria settle into the duct tissues and create chronic low-grade infections that prevent normal tear production and drainage. The same strep bacteria that causes sinus problems, ear infections, UTIs, and sore throats can create duct blockages contributing to dry eyes.
- adrenal_dysfunction: Weakened adrenal glands — whether overactive or underactive — play a significant role in dry eyes. Adrenals influence moisture regulation throughout the body. When adrenals are exhausted or dysregulated, the lubrication mechanisms for the eyes break down. Anthony William stated in the Eye Health (2016) podcast: 'Dryness, welcome to adrenal issues. That's a big piece of it, big piece of it. Adrenals have a big role.' Supporting and strengthening the adrenals is a primary treatment approach.
