Gum disease

Important Notes

  • Alcohol kills the active phytochemical compounds in propolis, goldenseal, and other herbal tinctures. Always use alcohol-free versions — even products claiming to be alcohol-free may contain some alcohol, so verify the source.
  • Chemical mouthwashes with alcohol or artificial ingredients damage gum tissue and kill beneficial oral bacteria without addressing the real pathogens causing gum disease. Prefer propolis-based rinses or diluted lemon juice.
  • Fluoride is an aluminum byproduct and neurotoxin that goes to the brain, causes nervous system damage, and actually weakens teeth over time — the opposite of what dentists claim. MM recommends avoiding fluoride treatments entirely.
  • Ammonia gas permeability: Bacteria in the gut putrefy rotting proteins and release ammonia gas that creeps up the esophagus at night while lying in bed. The ammonia reacts with oxygen in the mouth making it more corrosive to gums and teeth. This is called ammonia permeability — a condition not yet known to science.
  • Bacteria: Bacteria sits in gums on gum line, burrows into teeth causing cavities
  • Oil pulling: Coconut oil pulling coats bacteria so the bacteria can thrive and breed in the mouth — it seals bacteria in and sets people up for gum disease down the road. Oil pulling does nothing for the mouth's immune system.
  • Gut health: Directly related to gut health and digestive issues
  • Coffee consumption: Excessive coffee consumption creates acidic environment that breaks down gums and teeth
  • Streptococcus in gut: H. pylori, streptococcus, E. coli, C. diff and other bacteria sitting in the intestinal tract feed off putrefaction and release toxins that travel up the esophagus into the mouth and eat away at gums and teeth. The bacteria itself releases a toxin that compounds the acids already present.
  • Low hydrochloric acid: Low HCl means proteins putrefy in the gut rather than being properly digested, creating ammonia gas that damages gums. Celery juice raises HCl, which kills bacteria and reduces the ammonia load reaching the mouth.
  • Processed foods: Processed foods contribute to gum deterioration by lowering pH
  • Viral infections in jaw nerves: Shingles virus can inflame the nerves in the jaw and gums, causing gum and tooth pain that dentists cannot find the source of. Many people get unnecessary root canals or tooth drilling when the real cause is a viral infection in the nerve — trigeminal neuralgia, jaw nerve inflammation, or facial nerve inflammation.
