Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

Condition
IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is a label given when the bowel is irritable and medicine does not know why. According to Anthony William, it is primarily caused by Streptococcus bacteria proliferating in the intestinal tract due to low hydrochloric acid and low bile production, combined with a stagnant liver and often toxic heavy metals in the gut. It is not a disease of unknown cause — the cause is bacterial and viral pathogenic activity in an intestinal tract compromised by poor liver function and low digestive acids.
  • Liver stagnation and bile deficiency: A stagnant, sluggish liver that cannot produce adequate bile is a foundational cause of IBS. When bile is weak or insufficient, fats cannot be properly broken down. These rancid fats move into the intestinal tract and feed Streptococcus, E. coli, C. diff, Staph, and other bacteria. This bacterial feeding frenzy then causes the inflammation and irregular bowel function characteristic of IBS.
  • Ammonia gas from decomposing food
  • Strep bacteria: Caused by streptococcus bacteria
  • Streptococcus bacteria: Caused by streptococcus bacteria that slowly eats away at the colon lining causing tiny formations of scar tissue
  • High-fat/high-protein diet: Dense fats and proteins feed pathogens and accelerate the condition. High-fat diet causes digestive system breakdown.
  • Dense fats and proteins feeding pathogens
  • Stress and adrenaline suppressing HCl: Everyday chronic stress puts people in fight-or-flight mode. Adrenaline released during this state is directly toxic to the gastric glands, keeping hydrochloric acid production chronically low. This means that even people eating well will struggle to heal IBS if they are under severe ongoing stress, because their HCl cannot rebuild while adrenaline is constantly flooding their system.
  • Gluten as Streptococcus fuel: Gluten is one of Streptococcus's favorite foods. When someone with chronic strep in their gut eats gluten, it directly fuels the bacterial overgrowth causing IBS. This is also why gluten sensitivity and IBS so frequently co-occur. Removing gluten starves the strep, giving the gut a chance to heal.
  • NOT autoimmune: IBS is not autoimmune. Celiac disease is inflammation from pathogens feeding on gluten, not an immune attack on self.
  • Liver stagnation: Liver becoming stagnant and sluggish due to toxin overload reduces bile production, which allows pathogens to thrive.
  • Low bile and hydrochloric acid allowing undigested food
  • Low production of hydrochloric acid and bile allowing bacteria such as strains from the over 50 groups of Streptococcus bacteria to proliferate inside the intestinal tract. Often the intestinal tract will also harbor toxic heavy metals such as mercury and the liver will be stagnant and sluggish due to an overload of toxins. A high-fat/high-protein diet accelerates the condition.
  • Low hydrochloric acid and bile: Low production of hydrochloric acid and bile allows bacteria (strains from 50+ groups of Streptococcus) to proliferate in the intestinal tract. Undigested food remains and decomposes, producing ammonia gas.
  • Low hydrochloric acid: Nearly everyone is walking around with weakened hydrochloric acid production. When HCl is low, proteins are not broken down properly and rot in the small intestinal tract, feeding SIBO-causing bacteria (primarily Streptococcus). Weakened HCl also means reduced ability to kill incoming pathogens. Chronic stress and adrenaline release keep HCl suppressed by being toxic to the gastric glands.
  • Streptococcus bacteria: Streptococcus dominates in the gut and causes most digestive problems. SIBO diagnosis typically indicates strep infection. Strep from 50+ groups proliferates when bile and HCL are low.
  • Toxic heavy metals in intestinal tract: Toxic heavy metals — particularly mercury — trapped in the intestinal tract contribute to IBS symptoms. Mercury and other metals sit in the gut and feed pathogens. The liver also becomes stagnant and sluggish from heavy metal overload, reducing its ability to produce bile and fueling the cycle of bacterial overgrowth.
  • Troublemaker foods: wheat, dairy, eggs, grains
  • Viral component: Viruses can also inhabit and inflame the intestinal tract, contributing to IBS symptoms. Viral neurotoxins are highly allergenic to the intestinal nerve endings, causing nerve inflammation along the gut lining. This viral contribution is why Anthony William expects IBS to eventually be classified as autoimmune (body attacking itself) by medicine — even though the actual cause is viral and bacterial, not an immune system error.
  • Rancid fats feeding bacteria: When bile is weak (from a compromised liver), dietary fats cannot be properly broken down. They go rancid in the small intestinal tract and large intestinal tract. Bacteria — particularly Streptococcus — use these rancid fats as fuel, creating a feeding frenzy. This is why high-fat diets dramatically worsen IBS, even when the fats are considered 'healthy.'
  • Ammonia gas from gut rot: When food rots in the intestinal tract due to low HCl and weak bile — proteins decomposing, fats going rancid — ammonia gas is produced. This is what Anthony William calls 'gut rot' (not leaky gut). The ammonia gas is toxic to the intestinal nerves and lining, causing cramping, pain, bloating, and irregular bowel movements. Excess salt in the diet worsens this by reacting with ammonia gas to create an even more potent form.
  • PID and prostatitis connection: When someone has pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or prostatitis — both caused by low-grade chronic Streptococcus infection — they often also have strep in the lower colon leading to IBS at the same time, because IBS is also a result of low-grade, chronic strep.
