Low thyroid

Condition

Viral mechanism: EBV drilling into thyroid tissue causes the gland to become damaged and scarred, which impedes its function and makes the thyroid less effective at producing hormones T4 and T3
Primary cause: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) - over 60 varieties of Epstein-Barr, different groups, mutations and strains that create a chronic low grade infection sitting in the liver
Congenital cases: Even congenital hypothyroidism when a baby is born with underactive thyroid is from EBV - a mutated strain of the virus can get into the baby's liver while developing in the womb and eventually its thyroid
Epstein-Barr virus: Low thyroid is caused by Epstein-Barr infection sitting chronically low grade in the liver
