Pancreatitis

Condition
  • High-fat diet: Chronic high-fat diets — including high animal fats, plant fats, oils, and nut butters — are the primary driver of pancreatic damage leading to pancreatitis. The pancreas must work overtime to process fat from every meal, eventually becoming exhausted, inflamed, and unable to self-regulate. This applies to both conventional and 'healthy' high-fat diets.
  • Dairy products overwork the pancreas: Dairy of any kind — raw or pasteurized — overworks the pancreas, causing it to overproduce insulin and digestive enzymes. Dairy's combination of fat and sugar causes heightened insulin resistance. Raw dairy is not safer — the pancreas still has to produce a massive amount of pancreatic enzymes and insulin to process it. MM: 'I won't have to throw out a billion pancreatic enzymes and shoot out insulin...it doesn't work that way' (in reference to raw dairy claims). People with any chronic illness, autoimmune disease, or compromised health should not consume dairy.
  • Gallbladder olive oil flushes cause acute pancreatitis: Drinking 8 tablespoons or large amounts of olive oil for gallbladder flushing is a documented trigger of acute pancreatitis. The massive fat load causes liver and gallbladder spasm, can lodge a gallstone in the bile duct requiring emergency surgery, and creates a pancreatic crisis. MM warned specifically: 'You are going to end up in a hospital with a gallbladder attack... how about pancreatitis?' (Live, DAY 3 BUG EVICTION, 2021-10-16)
  • Holiday indulgence pattern — seasonal acute pancreatitis risk: During the holidays, many people experience acute digestive crises including pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, upset stomachs, and acid reflux from eating a little too much fat in cakes, cookies, and rich foods. MM: 'During the holidays a lot of people get gallbladder problems, they get pancreatitis... because they are eating just a little too much of this, having some cake, having some cookies, indulging in a little too much fat in different ways.' (Podcast, Morning Cleanse Challenge Day 1, 2020-12-15)
  • Adrenaline and fear-based stress hormones: Eating while emotional causes the pancreas to produce insulin that mixes with fear-based adrenaline in the bloodstream. Over time, this creates a 'Franken-sulin' (MM's term) — the body becomes allergic to the adrenaline/insulin blend, leading cells to shun both hormones. This contributes to insulin resistance and pancreatic breakdown beyond just diet. Chronic adrenaline-saturated lifestyles (high stress, chronic fight-or-flight) damage the pancreas's ability to self-regulate.
  • Large-dose coconut oil triggers acute pancreatitis: Even plant-based fats in large amounts can trigger acute pancreatitis. MM describes people who gave themselves pancreatitis by putting 2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil in a smoothie: 'Your pancreas just went — you just tried to kill me.' A large slug of overt fat at one sitting can tip a weakened pancreas into acute inflammation regardless of fat source. 'It is a healthy fat... but still.' (Live, Morning Cleanse Challenge Day 2, 2021-06-18)
  • Emotional stress — betrayal and heartbreak: Heartbreak, letdown, betrayal, and other forms of broken trust are directly hard on the pancreas. Fear of any kind also stresses the pancreas. These emotional states trigger adrenaline surges that put additional demand on pancreatic function. The pear is MM's top food for pancreas emotional protection.
  • Intermittent fasting: Intermittent fasting breaks down the pancreas over time. The stress of prolonged fasting combined with a large high-fat meal at the end of the day (often with caffeine during the fast) creates a cycle that weakens the pancreas, adrenals, and liver simultaneously.
  • Vegan and plant-based high-fat diets: Plant-based and vegan high-fat diets also cause pancreatitis. A vegan eating half a jar of coconut oil gave themselves pancreatitis — fat source does not matter. MM: 'Just for the record, meat eaters get more pancreatitis than any vegetarian or vegan has ever gotten in the history of medicine — but plant-based people are not off the hook.' High nut, seed, oil, and coconut oil consumption on vegan diets creates the same pancreatic overload as animal fats.
  • Pork fat is the most acute trigger: Pork creates a particularly severe pancreatic crisis because its high fat content stays in the bloodstream while simultaneously the pancreas must spike insulin to handle accompanying sugars (from BBQ sauce, bread, or dessert). The pancreas spills months worth of insulin and enzyme reserves in one day. This fat-sugar combination is why pork has landed many people in hospital overnight with acute pancreatitis without knowing pork was the cause. MM: 'It is that fat getting in the way of the sugar that puts the pancreas on overload to save us with months worth of insulin and enzyme reserves in one day.' (Cleanse to Heal)
  • Fat and sugar combination: The combination of high-fat foods with poor-quality sugar (fried foods, rich dishes, desserts, fast food) is particularly damaging to the pancreas. The pancreas shoves out tremendous amounts of insulin to handle the sugar but cannot function properly when simultaneously overwhelmed with fat.
  • Food poisoning and viral/bacterial injury: Type 1 diabetes (which can follow repeated pancreatitis) can be triggered by food poisoning, viral infection, bacterial infection, a toxin, or even a physical injury to the pancreatic area. The injury does not have to cause pancreatitis immediately — it can develop as a delayed post-injury effect.
  • High-fat diet forces adrenaline surges that damage pancreas: When the bloodstream is loaded with fat, the brain is deprived of oxygen delivery. The body produces adrenaline surges to thin the blood enough that oxygen can reach the brain. These adrenaline surges land directly on the pancreas over time, contributing to burnout. The adrenaline lifestyle combined with high-fat diet are co-factors in wearing down the pancreas. (Medical Medium: Cleanse to Heal)
